Course Reflections:

Which of our three goals do you feel you improved upon the most? Better reader, better writer, or better speaker and listener?

I think that throughout the course I became a better reader and analyzer of the reading. We discussed and dissected many different novels during the year expanding not only the topic of books I read, but also the way to analyze them. Also, by learning many new vocab words, I expanded my knowledge of words that I come across while reading and have created a larger vocabulary to pick from when speaking. Many of the words we learned are ones that I will remember and have even found in real life whether it be in newspapers, on TV, or spoken by people I'm around. My writing skills improved mainly with grammar because we spent a lot of time going over parts of a sentence and how everything goes together in a paper.

How has this course helped me to become a more caring, competent, contributing citizen in an ever-changing global community?

Reading Tuesday's with Morrie probably touched me the most and made me think about the way I live so that I am a more caring, competent, and contributing citizen. Morrie is an incredible person to have such a positive outlook on life when in his state and have so much wisdom, seeemingly having an answer for everything. We should all live the way he does and the Buddhists do with a bird on our shoulders every day asking ourselves, is today the day? Am I being the person I want to be?

What will you take away from this class? What will you remember?

I will take away with me the strong reading and analysis of literature skills that we learned and explored throughout the course. I will also remember the discussions that we had in class and the great arguments and conversations we had discussing the books, especially A Separate Peace. I will always remember the laughs we have had as a group and I will definitely remember to put my shopping cart away in the Wal-Mart parking lots.

Self Evaluation:

Did I achieve my personal goals for this course? One of my goals was to get an A in the class. I received a high A, (+-97) for both marking periods and have yet to receive my final grade score. I also wanted to become a better creative writer which I think we worked on while creating the alternate ending for of mice and men. That went well, and I also received a high grade for that. Finally, I didn't want to procrastinate on papers as I sometimes had in the past. I worked efficiently and finished my papers before the due dates to ensure that I was on task and following the exact prompt carefully. I had each part of my portfolio done at their required intervals so that I didn't leave a large amount of work for the end. Overall, I achieved my goals and am pleased with it.

Did you give your personal best?

I worked hard at most points of the course, and even though I didn't put in as much time when I had volleyball I pushed through and worked efficiently with the time I had. Though I would like to improve my "personal best", I think I worked up to the level it is currently at. I turned in all of my work to the best of my ability, and never forgot to do or bring in any homework. I remembered and prepared for all of the tests we took during the semester. Overall I feel like my hard work has paid off because I will be leaving the course a better reader, writer, and speaker along with a hard earned grade.
